This month unveils our new Idea Book from Close To My Heart and I have to tell ya, there are a few new papers I would wallpaper some certain rooms with!

This month is "anything goes" new or old, but who could resist playing with new products?
Not ME that's for sure!!!!!!

The images such as the letters and the plaque were cut out using our Art Philosophy Cartridge. The stamped words come from the new set called Card Word Puzzle! Love it!
I had made a set of these for my sup's birthday, and then using the Pemberley papers I also made a set for my daughter too. They go together so quickly and are a great personable gift.

Heartfelt Farewell…At Last.

Today the world said farewell to a legend…
Etta James.

No, I wasn't there, however a friend from the ol' days was. He went from playing with my BFG in all the hotspots of Sacramento to the streets of LA, around the world with Rod Stewart, Tom Petty and yes, toured At Last with Etta James.
Our friend Jimmy Z was there today…he and the the Roots Band paid tribute as well as…
well, some well knowns. Here is his recap. Unedited.

It's been a busy, sad 2 days with Etta James' viewing last night and her memorial service this morning. Jessica was with me and it was awesome. The whole Roots Band was there and we played At Last and some other Etta songs.

Rev. Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters did the eulogies. Sharpton nailed it.

Stevie Wonder played piano and sang and then played a harmonica solo that was so incredible. Pristine and flawless.

President Obama sent a heartfelt, poignant letter that Rev. Sharpton read to the crowd.

Christina Aguilerier sang At Last and did her usual heavy handed approach but people seemed to like it.

So good to see Lupe De Leon, Etta's longtime manager. Etta's husband Artis. Meredith from the office.

Sons, Donto and Sametto. All the kids and grandkids.

Pat, Etta's longtime friend and nurse.

Rudy, make up man to the stars and Etta James.

Thelma Jones and Gary Ballen.

But the best part was playing with my brothers in the Etta James Roots Band probably for the last time as a group. And sending Etta off in style. Josh Sklair, Bobby Murray, Dave Mathews, Reggie McBride, Lee Thornburg, Nick Lane, Mike Olmos, Chet...and all the other alumni members in the crowd.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

We love you Etta and you are and will be missed immensely.

As Rev. Sharpton said, " She is irreplaceable."

From one of the local news reports:

"The genius of Etta James is she flipped the script," Sharpton said, alluding to her struggles with addiction, which she eventually overcame.

"She waited until she turned her pain into power," he said, adding that it turned her story away from being a tragic one into one of triumph.

"You beat 'em Etta," Sharpton said in concluding his eulogy. "At last. At last. At last!"

The assembly roared to their feet, and did stand to applaud performances by Wonder and Aguilera, who filled the sanctuary with their voices.

I'm Not Hormonal, but I have Hotflashes

I am not hormal, I am not hormonal, it's the HorMONigees or lack thereof..
Whatever it is, it started with the Breast Cancer 11 years ago and I've been flashing, lighting fires, and living with my head in the freezer ever since.

I've also developed the VSP Veinte. Generally most new employees at VSP gain at least 20 pounds.
It could be the cafe on-site with good to love and hate to love foods on demand.
It could be the snack machines with not so good stuff available 24/7.
It could be the Fabulous Cake Day the last day of every month.
It could be the endless Potlucks.

It's most definitely a combination of all of the above. But please add to the fact that we are sedentary in our jobs. Hooked to a phone for 8 hours. Bio breaks acceptable but otherwise that's what we do.

Mind you that my arms and legs are still skinny as a rail, and I could disappear behind most fences,
frontal wise.
Side wise ain't pretty I tell ya.
I've always said I don't make New Year's Resolutions and this year was no different.

It's just coincidence that in this New Year, I've noticed that something touches my legs while sitting and my pants' waistline is touching my rib cage so I have vowed to do something about it.

Just sayin' it out loud. Tap! Tap! is this thing on?

I think it might be gross to document…but then no one is listening…right?

January Blog Hop-Wonderland!

These are a few of my Christmas Cards using this paper pack. You'll notice they may look familiar…and that's because when you hopped over from Vicki's Blog, I CASED them from her! I love her artwork!
So this month we are featuring Wonderland Papers…and since it's been unusually cold here 'n da Hood, it fit!

Yes, those iddy biddy white dots are Liquid Applique!

Here's a project that conceptually, I've been working on for a few weeks. (a few weeks you may be thinking?) Well, yes. An hour commute and a 9 hr day doesn't allow for quick projects too much anymore!
What threw a wrench in the whole project was that the young man in the said photos broke my niece's heart at Christmas. I do not like him. Oh wait…I've never met him. But still. Anyhoot, the whole theme had to change…
I used the concept from CTMH's Idea Book "Magic" called Juggling Act(note snowflakes)
lots of glitter, mini sparkles (sorry had to throw in a MS snowflake punch), Liquid Applique, and a touch of grunge from t!m holtz, too.

In the Spirit…Merry Christmas

Just a few snapshots to "feel" the spirit of Christmas for the children.

You may recall this Christmas I sent out in '07…

It was just one of those priceless snapshots that turned into the best annual Christmas card.

Over the years I have had a lot of stress during the Holidays. One year I found myself driving around on Christmas Eve trying to find a tree I could afford. Another year, late Christmas Eve shopping at Wal-Mart with a gazillion other parents with some found cash to spend.
Some years I had to sell gold for cash…but as a young child, my daughter never knew.

And no matter how few presents she had from me, Santa ALWAYS took care of her.

Who am I kidding…it's the CHRISTMAS season!
I am quite frankly tired of being politically correct…'scuze me but what politician tells me what to say about any given holiday?

A lot has been going on…outside of my home and blog, of course.
Still dealing with mom's health issues, although she is better. Just a few setbacks here and there.
My camera and laptop are not communicating still! This has been a struggle for me.
I am mentally exhausted from the "day" job…not that it's bad, just draining.

I did want to take a moment to wish all of my followers a very Merry Christmas and a joyous, healthy New Year. I appreciate all the comments you have left over the past year, whether it be cracking a joke (love those at my expense) or a compliment on a piece of artwork. I know the art isn't published as often as I would like…some nites it's all I can do to get through the (totally illegal, but I didn't do it) DVD of the latest Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 ! (oy vey, I'm head over heels about cold, hard and sparkly things!)

Happy December! What?! Did someone say DECEMBER?! Don't even get me started on how the months have just (pa-chew) flown by!

Never thought I would meet someone so famous who has been around for so long.
Not that I was always Dreamin' about Randy Travis in particular, but it was pretty cool to work with his team of security and help out at the Old Sugar Mill Concerts.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while…I haven't slept in the same bed two nites in a row since the end of September. My mom (yea, the Chicken Lady) had a series of health issues that were downright scary and that could only happen to her. Odd that after surviving Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer, something weird like a Fungus infection invaded her chest and built condos and shopping malls in there!
She's on the mend, but it will be a while before I am back to normal blogging and she's back to 100%…thanks for your patience and faithfulness.

Just in case you've never visited our founder of Close To My Heart Jeanette Lynton's Blog (the link is to the right down the page), she recently put out a Q&A for anyone to submit their inquiring mind-type questions…well I did…and she answered!

See, after attending years and years of events put on by CTMH, I wanted to know that with the Cricut phenomenon, if our Corp office staffers still hand cut hundreds of thousands of pieces of papers and cardstock for our hands-one projects!
(personally I love using my Bug to cut me a whole sheet of 2 x 2 squares!)

She never really addressed that part of the question, but she did give us all some insight on how much of a CTMH purist she is or if she ever delved into the "other" side of craft tools!

To my few faithful, I do apologize for my absence…many things have attributed.
We had a wedding and the loss of a loved one.

The wedding was celebrating the union of one of my nieces. It was a TOMS supported affair and you know how I love my TOMS and their purpose.

Here's a photo I posted to the TOMS gallery of all the guests who attended wearing TOMS

Love this shot of Haley and our great-niece's TOMS…

It wasn't just a TOMS affair, it was truly a family affair:

I did the photo guest book

My brother and sister in law provided the cake and food

The Bride made her own cake topper!

The Groom's mother choreographed the first dance…and her family made the traditional Persian Wedding table….

The Bride's sister planned, decorated and provided the flower girl….

Love you Monica and Jim!

Then we got the call….come to Wyoming... now.
Haley and I packed up Sparkles the day after the wedding and headed out. 15.5 hours later we arrive at our in-laws home. We said good-bye to my mother-in-law two days later.
She was an amazing woman. There isn't enough room here to post all her attributes.
I always wanted to be her when I grew up.
She had thousands of organized photo albums and some scrapbook supplies from her 84 years so it was not a difficult task to make her a special Memory Board for the service.
I hope it made her proud.

It was the first time in about 14 yrs. that all six kids were together, from New York, Idaho and California.

I was glad to be there for her and Pop.

It's September (somewhere!) and this month our Blog Hop is featuring the beautiful papers called Sonoma.

And here is project number 2 actually!

I used a plethoria of new and well loved older products along with the new papers.
The colors are Smokey Plum, Amethyst, Olive and Desert Sand. ( I also cheated and used some retired Pansy Purple because my Plum was almost black, blea)

I even was able to steal a flower from the Art Philosophy cricut cartridge from Anne (my longtime friend/team member) and used our re-inkers and Pearl paint to give it some color.
Here's a layout I had done first about Brides using the Sonoma WOTG.

I didn't want to do a layout for each wedding (I missed Tracy's) so this was my tribute to all my Bride's recently.
Keep an eye on the horizon as my niece is getting married this Saturday and I am looking forward to doing her Guest/Photo Album and will share pictures when it's done.

Eight Random Things on the 8th!

Something new and totally UNoriginal…
Most nites I'm usually pretty well brain dead from the "other day job" and commuting, which puts a big damper on my ArT and cReaTiviTy…it's all I can do to catch up on my friends' blogs I tell ya!

One blog I try not to lose sight of is a long time CTMH friend Kathy. She does a random 7 thoughts on the 7th. Then there's my other CTMH friend Tresa and she does a Whatever Wednesday thing.

Now, I can't even compete with Tresa's Fabulously Artsy posts (I'm so not worthy) however I CAN put together a few random thoughts like Kathy…so here goes:

1. I will try to remember do to this on the 8th of each month (but no promises. ha!)

2. Cancer Bites. Another family member has been diagnosed and quite frankly, I'd love to just bite Cancer back in the ass.

3. Spiders bite, too. An unidentifiable garden spider has taken a chunk out of the BFG here while tending to his garden. While the feeling is back in his lip and cheek, there is still a numb feeling up on his head. Will he go to the Dr.? The answer is, "he is a man".

4. I am so overwhelmed with ArT possibilities that I lose focus.

5. I am 2.5 months behind on hair needs. I have resorted to the ol' modeling trick...
brown eyeshadow at the root line. Please don't share this secret as it will put the L'Oreal people into bankruptcy.

6. I really would do a LOT of good deeds within my community/world if I should ever win the Lottery. Not that I do not now. I do have a list prepared just in case things go Global.

7. I keep putting off vacuuming the spider webs in the house because Halloween is right around the corner and then all I have to do is blow some baby powder on them and my decorating is done!

8. I really want to thank you for sticking through this post. Really.

This month's features are the colors or use of the new Mischief Papers!

and our new Stamp of the Month….Wicked!

Well... I didn't have either yet, but was able to borrow and stamp some images from a friend….

So while I did use Black and Sunset, I used a carry-over stamp set from the Spring/Summer Catalog that is now in the new Autumn/Winter catalog…

Stamp set used: C1423 Captured Moments

and also The Present D1436

They both have great textures you can use for any theme.

(disclosure: do not start with your largest object first!

I am not happy that it's huge by comparison to the images. failure!)

I used a scrap of our Wings Level 2 Assortment Z1398 Black pleated ribbon around a hydrangea rolled rose.

I cut a mask from a post-it note, then on a 1.5 x 1.5 square of Col. White stamped the image, then sponged with the reverse mask. When I went to sponge some clouds in, my grey was green! ack! failure!

Ok, so after a few excuses…here it is!

I'm off to Close To My Heart's Annual Convention in Anaheim, CA …
and no, we will NOT have repeats of 13 years ago when Haley got left in the Happiest Place on Earth by herself! I won't be visiting Mickey or Minnie this visit, but will still enjoy the fun and excitement of it all while staying at the Disneyland's recently re-modeled Hotel.

I'll be missing in action, but will come back with some awesome new sneak peaks of all the latest and greatest we have all come to expect from Close To My Heart.

Yes, We are Proud to Be an Apache!

Occasionally, a group of us who attended Encina High School (back when it was a GOOD school) get together. By occasionally, I mean any excuse we can think of ie: birthdays, warm weather, end of school year, or when we're bored with our every day lives…

So last nite we did…ie; someone had a birthday, the warm weather arrived and our college-aged kids are now out of school and we were bored with our every day lives.

I do love getting together with our group…we have endured a lot since our High School days within our group..marriages, death, new relationships, etc. And we can truly commisserate with each other and give new perspective to why our years at Encina were either the happiest of our lives or the worst.

For some reason last night, confession time appeared after a few bottles of wine, Lemon Drop martinis and dinner.
Most of those there told me they were actually AFRAID of me! I found that sooo funny! Not because I wore studs, boots and carried a weapon or anything like that. Just the unknown about me…even though we had classes together, went to school games, dances, and took part in many assemblies showing our Apache pride, they all knew my name, but didn't "know" me. Hence, fear.

I had to set them straight…I never killed anyone and buried the bodies in our football field. I never dumped a shorter person in the garbage cans. And my one and only attempt to have a Kager party fell through because my grandmother needed a perm and my dad wanted to paint our bedroom ceilings instead of going out of town, NOT because I wanted all that beer for myself and my boyfriend!

It was nice to clear the air after all these years indeed.

ha! I love that saying for the eve of Cinco De Mayo!
As I can see (and you of course as well), it's been a while since I've blogged.
I am truly sorry bout that…truly and ruly. Lots going on other than the normal one hour commute each way to and fro work and then the required 8 hours.
I've been selling packs of hand-made cards as you can see from previous posts, can't make 'em fast enough actually. I've also been trying to finish up some projects just laying around, too. Photos coming of those WHEN I actually finish them! ha!
I've also been fortunate to be chosen to assist with training of new hires at work, and even though I am not on the phones, per se, it really makes ya think hard back to basics and to KISS (keep it simple, stupid!) They don't know what I know..so it's important to show the way not just TELL the way. Know what I mean? So that makes your brain have to slow down and concentrate for their sake..I can truly say that I am brain fried at night! Why…I can barely kick my cousin's *ss in a game of Word Feud anymore!

New colors of an old version...

nothing new…really.
I love this first design so bad, I think I saw the green combination on the Wizard's Hangout but couldn't find the card, but my first version is here…and now I love it in purples, too!

This next card…took an hour to make…here's why:
First I found the flowers (am trying to exhaust a lot of embellies on hand)
Then had to find some papers to match (or thort-uv match) which took 45 minutes!
Of all the CTMH kits I have, I would never have looked in the fall kit Olivia. Once I started looking at my sample swatches there it was!
Then viola!

It's Alive!

Due to circumstances beyond human control (solely a mole), our artichoke plants had to be taken to a more protective area. That means transplanted into a self-contained box with cement blocks underneath to prevent a certain mole from pulling it down by the roots.
Can you imagine a 5 foot tall plant with a stalk the size of small car tire being reduced to a 10" tall piece of leaf? I mean come on…!

Anyhoot, shortly after transplanting, the poor things were dumped on by at least 11" of rain, winds up to 50mph, and more rain. There was doubt of survival.
Yesterday being the first sunny day in a really loooooong time, I ventured out.
Lo-and-behold…. It's alive! and ….producing already!

Well, if that weren't enough to throw me into summertime hypertension, I turned to the backside of the property and saw this…in all it's glory….

And wept with joy.

Every time there is a natural disaster somewhere, I try to help.
Give blood no problem…$5, $10, $20 here n there whether I have it to spare or not.
I send it off, tweet about it and "hope" that in some way my little bit will add to a huge melting pot that others have thrown in.
I see the aid on the news…and think OK…I guess it did help so it does make me feel better.
Locally I see those in need as well. These are my neighbors, co-workers and family.
I take an elderly neighbor a plate of food and know they are nourished.
I see a homeless teen going barefoot and see her happy in a pair of my barely used shoes.
I see children lonely and sad in a hospital, so I take bags of Beanies so each child can call one of them their own and won't be so lonely.
Don't get me wrong…I don't have the need to get something in return….well…until now!

I know how great Close to My Heart has always been in time of need…and as Jeanette our founder says,
"If we all do a little, together we can do a lot. Let's show our support and together, provide real HOPE for Japan!"

Ode to Rooster

He came to our yard scrawny, weak, and mangy looking last summer and could barely croak out a cock-a-doodle-doo.

Kept sayin', "the KI-yotes'll get 'im, won't last long".
Somehow he found various places to "roost" and rest.

I complained about him crowing at all times inappropriate…
I complained about all the peanut shells he left behind…
I complained about the small poop piles on the deck and sidewalk…
But he lasted through the winter..even started developing some plumpness around the breast area…his color became a beautiful varigated tone of white-on-gold, his rear tail
feathers became tall and sure.

Then one day last week…I slept in. The alarm actually woke me.
I realized…no crowing. No scratching at the door. Nothing but silence outside.
That night when I got home from work, I took a mag-lite and searched around the perimeter of our property, the neighbors, anywhere looking for signs.
Nothing. No feathers. Nothing.

I miss the dang crowing. I live in the country after all! There should always be a rooster crowing somewhere right? The peanut shells have blown away with the spring wind.
The poop piles have washed away with recent storms.
And I now rely on my alarm clock to wake me up in the morning.

Meanwhile…back 'n da Hood...

Working on a new little "goodie" in the Studio, but since vacaysh is over, it'll be a few more times before I finish. I still zone out after a few hours after I get home from work.

Not that it took me all day to make this card, but I admit it…I did have a nap between starting and finishing. While on vacation from work, all my REAL plans fell through, but I've been resting my mind, and body…which I desperately needed anyways.
So heading for the Studio:

I've been a "flower" kick lately…see previous post. This cute little pom-pom style flower is simply made with a 1"scalloped punch and about 11 punches. Fold them around a wooden BBQ skewer and glue down to a base punch. Try it for a larger size using our new 2" scalloped punch!
I found the idea on another blog and am trying to find it to reference here…may need to add that later though.

A Whole Lotta Rollin' Goin' On!

I learned how to roll paper roses, and am now ready to harvest, and sell in bouquets.
(not really, but I do have enough, really.)

But for now and without a drum-roll, here's my lowly version

I used the same techniques as Tracey (why reinvent the wheel?) however being the first time
(no comments from the peanut gallery) I had ever attempted the flowers, they are a tad on the large size. This took me almost a month! I'm getting better though…the 2nd one only took a day to roll the roses and it's ready for embellies. More on that one later.

The End of 2010

This has been quite the year, and quite frankly, I am done with it.

As of late, I have been a very bad blogger. I admit it. Between living in two households while helping Gramie after her accident, working full-time which includes an hour each commute, and trying to keep my own household up, there wasn't much time for art or even a daily posting.

Recently, I lost a co-worker. He was a very sweet spirited person, loving/doting father/husband and all around nice guy. He "sang" to our callers. Not "sing" in a musical way. "Sing" as in a soothing, sincere tone. It was incomprehensible that I will never hear that voice again. Ski on Kev.

Since his death, as most people do, I reflect. I don't reflect well. Most people reflect on the good, the positive. I reflect on regret.

Should I have bought the second pair of TOMS?

(well, sure! a child gets a pair, too!)

Should I have gotten a less expensive new car?

(yea, I could tie all my stuff to the roof of any size car)

Should I have stayed away the first time I left this house 16 yrs ago?

(I don't honestly know where I would be)

Why can some people be negative, grumpy, uncaring and a sour-puss and I enable that?

(cause I have a great studio to hide from it)

See? I don't reflect like most people.

Since I neglected to actually order the beautiful holiday kit from CTMH called Mistletoe, I used some sample swatches to make the card…I do love the papers!
The verse is actually colored in with our Glitter Rub Ons…am kind of out of practice with them but still really cool and no mess with glitter!

The 3 Muskateers…40 years later!

40 years ago:
I was a puny freshman in High School and met up with these 2 others.
As the world around us was changing, we endured many things in those few short years that we were inseparable…wars, presidential failures, women's rights coming to the forefront again…how hormones defined us or ruled us.
There was a lot more hair involved…and a lot less weight for a couple of us.
We were not wild rich kids but lived in a beautiful newly developed area only a few blocks apart.
There were no cell phones, or computers only the iconic telephone that we hung on for hours even after just leaving each at the bus stop.

One Day ago:
We reunited.
The reunion involved tears, laughter, great food and I'm pretty sure, a lot of alcohol.
We found out that other than a few years out of the 40, we were within 30 miles of each other and never knew it.
We shared the loss of loved ones, family dynamics, our careers, and tried to solve many current social issues as well.
We all sound EXACTLY the same as we did 40 years ago but would not have recognized each other walking down the street.
There are now 2 new sets of email addresses, cell phone numbers and home addresses in my phone and I will GPS them a couple times a week to know I haven't lost track of them again.

I've been in an artistic slump lately…yup, not a creative bone in my body.
But here goes...
The main focus is the beautiful papers or the colors from the new Olivia papers from Close To My Heart.
Love the papers so much I forgot to order them. But I do have the cardstock colors...

I love the new colors: Pear and Sunset. Who'd a thunk that they would have been paired with Barn Red? And aren't those mini-button-braids just the cutest stankin' thing?!
I cheated and added some B/T from another set as the background. So sue me.

Dads Are Heros Without Capes

As I was thinking of how Mom is going to have to adapt to life with (hopefully) a temporary disability, I remembered how I felt when I watched a long-time friend's daughter get walked down the aisle by her father who suffers from MS.

Walking her down the aisle was always Billy's Plan A…right up to the night before the wedding, Plan B was looking better. We all giggled thinking well, the Bride would look oh-so-cute on the back of his scooter. Or hey, even matching scooters! But Billy wasn't even thinking of Plan B. HIS Plan, Plan A was gonna happen.

I had arrived a tad late for my taste, but LUCKILY was put right at the back of the church.
I will never be so glad that I was at the back of the church again!

I saw him "scoot" into the foyer of the church and my heart swelled. No matter how it happened, he was still going to take his daughter down that aisle.
And then he….
he stood up.

Well I choked up right about there. I didn't think this could get any better.
And then….
She walked to him and supported him back to the white linen carpet and said,

"I gotcha Dad"
Well I just bawled right out loud. Along with 450 others. I think if we weren't all wiping our noses, we might have applauded.
And dang if he didn't…

walk her all the way down that aisle!
Now most people wouldn't bother with a rear-end shot like this…but to me it was a monumental shot. Then 50 people pushed me out the way to get the same shot.
It was a mass ceremony. 1.5 hours. I was a wreck.
And then…damn!

if he didn't walk HIS bride back down the aisle.
I'm tellin ya I was toast by the end of this wedding!
Oh but wait…that can't be the end of the story.

You see, when Helen and Billy got married, I was one of their 7 bridesmaids. And when I got married Helen was pregnant with this darling bride and her twin sister and was my Matron of Honor.
The other twin will be married in February.
THIS Father/Daughter dance brought the day to a whole new level of awwwwwwww…..

Billy's Hero Cape flew in the wind of all of our tears that day.

The Big "Bang" Theory

"Bang" as in car accident.
"Bang" as in the air bags that do great damage while probably saving one's life.
"Bang" as in I would rather phone in the injuries than be classified something other than a trauma patient. Wouldn't that be more efficient?
"Bang" as in injuries sustained by a more mature person are more serious and life-altering.
"Bang" above said injuries are also going to be life-altering for me, too.
She's healing on the outside…the inside might just take a tad longer.

My oldest niece came up from the Bay Area to witness the event.
She will never be the same.

Summer 2010

Things have been...well, let's just say there are lots of reasons why I've been a bad blogger.
Just this week, we've had 2 family losses on my husband's side.
One older person, one younger person.

Instead of dwelling on those losses here and since it's been a while since I've posted anything at all, will save those details later when I can see better.

Meanwhile, back in the garden...we are abounded with cantelopes, watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, zuchinni, really huge garlic, shallots, red/white onions, and any herb we'll ever need. (remember that when I say "we", it's not that I took a hand or shovel to the dirt, but documenting with pictures is an important part, right?)

I'm still recovering from my trek to DC....
But wanted to let everyone know I made it back alright, then proceeded to throw out my back! Do I go back on vacation to cure that?

I got to take an awesome night tour of the city....but not much during the day.

I may not have a chance to pop in to say "bye-for-now" before I leave for Washington, DC., so this is it!
This is the Gaylord Property and Convention Centers...they are awesome! Truly a city within.

If this location is anything like Texas and Florida, it's sure to be an adventure!
And if the heat we've been having here in Sacramento (high 90's - low 100's) isn't enough, the Eastern seabord AND of course, DC are have their own heat waves.

I'll stick to night tours and the pool during our off time from Convention!

15 years ago, I saw this little magazine-like catalog with cute little stamp images and was hooked. I signed with a company called DOTS (Dozens of Terrific Stamps)to be an Independent Consultant. 10 years ago the company changed vision and the name to Close To My Heart.

The rollercoaster ride has been such that I cannot imagine what my life would have been without.
The friends unmeasureable, the business incredible and the products are truly one-of-a-kind.
No matter what has gone on in my life, Close To My Heart has always been there for me. Whether full-time, or part-time, I've always had a place in my heart for this company. They resolute true values for us and I know them to be the number one company in an industry that, in this economy, could be precarious.

As I ready to travel to DC for our Annual Convention, I am also celebrating 15 YEARS as a Consultant.

I am honored to wear this in celebration of my longevity AND to still represent Close To My Heart for many years to come...

Along with a journal aspect, I'll be using mine as an autograph book.

Back "in the day" when I had a lot of hair, eyelashes and a size 5 waistline, I was into music. I should clarify that for the most part, the music was whatever the BFG's band was playing for gigs.

One of his band mates and longtime childhood friend went on to pursue music professionally. He has toured with Rod Stewart, Etta James, the Eurythmics, jammed with Bo Didley and the likes.

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I've blogged! I know you'll forgive since you love me.

*tap*tap* is this thing on? Right ya love me? k...as I was saying....

Anyhoot...lots goin on:

First and foremost Gramie got past another procedure for a tumor in her lung. Same song as last time with a change up. No extended stay in the hospital, but severe nauseousness post surgery. Took her about 22.5 hrs to get over it, then we hit Costco, Walmart...ya know the norm. I was exhausted.

Supported Susan G Komen Race for the Cure by registering as a 10 yr survivor then went scrapping at Stampin Memories. I really can't believe it's been 10 yrs for both.

You'll be happy to know that although we were at the Bradley House for 2 days and nites, I did actually get A (as in ONE) layout done whilst others were slammin' out between 6 and 18! wow.

Looking forward to DC in July for my 15th anniversary with CTMH where they may pull me up on stage and for nothing else but to ask...what has kept you around for so dang long?

(that's another post)

And since you asked, yes, still doing the commute to support My Frame of Mind, which today is the day I order my new glasses...(again, another post forthcoming)

Encina Apaches Alumni

Ever year, my Alumni does a fund-raiser for our beloved Encina High School in Sacramento.
It's the Old guys (aka Alumni) vs the current Varsity team.
In 10 years, we have raised over $400k...all from email pledges.
Friday nite was THE nite:

The alumni lost a heartbreaker on Friday night...

After leading by as much as 17 points in the third quarter, and by 13 points with 5:34 left in the fourth quarter, the alumni were unable to handle the relentless full court press of the varsity team. Forcing turnovers, they whittled away at the alumni lead, finally taking the lead for the first time with 1:50 left in the game. The alumni fought back, with Erickson Aquino 95 making 4 straight free throws to tie the game 65-65 with 42 seconds left. But the varsity prevailed, winning 71-65.

In spite of the result, this was a fun and exciting game to watch. The alumni had speed and deadly shooting this year, but the youth of the varsity team and their second half press won out.

At's ok...we need to "let" the young guys win once in awhile!

This year, despite the economy, we raised an impressive $29K !!!

As usual, an after-game get together happens. This year I met up with a friend I've known since the 8th grade and haven't seen in about 6 years.

We DID celebrate THAT!

Here's some highlights....

This is pre-game at the free BBQ dinner with Steve Palmer, one of the even co-ordinators.

I simply refused to wear an old cheer outfit...no matter how much anyone pledged!

Then we went into the remodeled gym ($30m and no a/c!)

Yes, yes...I know sitting on the Apache logo is like sacraligious...but them seats are hard on old butts!

We had a great time even though...well you know...we lost! But I hopefully gained a old friend back.

Had a lovely family gathering today, and our niece, along with her family had a beautiful "sea" tank.
Not only did she have a clown fish named Nemo but of course ~~annemies, aneonemies, anomenies,~~
anemones. It was very curious to see how the other fish avoided the anemones, becuase it would kill them. Safely, and securely, Nemo would run to the anemones when another fish got to close to him...

isn't a post of artwork or a another hilarious "I ran over my foot with my own car" story.
I'm watching (well the TV is on) the closing evening of the Olympics. Won't even mention the CAN vs USA Hockey game. There were a lot of emotional moments this year...beginning with the death of a Georgian, the death of one of the skaters' mom, and ok, I gotta say it...the loss to CAN in the Hockey game. That was a low!.
It brought a lot of emotional highs and lows to mind, but one that stands out as of this week.

Recently, a long lost cousin had "found" us again! Which is definitely a high! Mom and I sifted through boxes of photos so that she could "find" her childhood again.
*can I just interrupt this post for a moment to get up on my soapbox and yell at the top of my lungs the following PSA?
Peoples! Write the who/what/when on the back of your photos...NOW please!

Ok, back to our scheduled blubbering (and the RE-opening of the Olympics, eh?)

Anyhoot...as we were looking through the gazillion photos of non-persona peoples, we finally found quite of few of my cousin...she was as cute as a button. I can't wait to send them off to her to share with her kids. I remembered things about her childhood that weren't exactly "normal". No one childhood is the same as another. But I do think that children can either be a product of their environment or rise above it inspite of the lemons.

When I tell ya I grew with "I Love Lucy" as a mom, yea...I'm a product of that environment.
And I think of my cousin and how she has not only made a lot of lemonade, but it's a pretty sweet batch at that.

That: is the ultimate high.

Sorry a tad late...but as soon as my vacation was over, I got the creepy coughy cold thing going around and went back to work to rest!

I actually got some scrapping done at our Stampin' Memories this time! We were fortunate enough to be able to stay an extra nite, and since I didn't have any hostess duties, got right down to scrapping!

In May of '09, we celebrated 10 Scrappin Years together! Wow! That's somethin, eh?
Here's a layout I did to celebrate the event...I usually don't handwrite my journaling but as someone better than I mentioned that our handwriting is as important as the story...of course she had really, really cute penmanship! just click on the picture if you dare to read the story...

For the lack of anything remotely exciting happenin' n da Hood, I thought I'd grab some random shots of Haley's adventures down Under and share with you. It's nice to live through the adventures of someone's youth who has traveled the world whilst I live n' da Hood.

Yesterday was DD's (darling daughter's)birthday. She turned 23.

If you're trying to do the math in your head to determine my age, lemme warn you. The medical experts are still trying to determine how a 5 yr old gave birth, so the research is not yet done.

As is one of the few quaint traditions here n da Hood, we take her to a restraunt of her choice for dinner.
Can you tell where we went?

My DD has inherently inherited the love of Martini's. That's 3 generations folks!
When I asked what she did on her birthday, she said, "this" and stuck her foot in my face.

Actually I'm embarrassed to say...I kind of like it...but don't tell Gramie.
